Intersect Aspen Presents: Paul Laster in Conversation with Artists
Wednesday, July 22 at 1pm EST with Fred TomaselliRegister for this talkA friend of Fred Tomaselli and a fan of his work since the 1990s, Paul Laster will talk to the Brooklyn-based artist about his attraction to collage, appropriation of articles documenting global events from The New York Times as grounds for paintings, and his 2009 Aspen Art Museum survey show, which initiated an ongoing relationship with the Aspen arts community and the area’s surrounding nature. Friday, July 24 at 1pm EST with Sanford BiggersRegister for this talkA friend and champion of Sanford Biggers and his art since first seeing it in 2001 at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, where he is scheduled to return for a solo show this fall, Paul Laster will talk to the New York-based artist about seminal pieces in the development of his diverse body of work, his studio practice, and the artist’s long-standing relationship with the Aspen arts community, with his inclusion in Anderson Ranch’s summer show continuing that engagement.

A champion of Kelly Akashi’s sophisticated work since first seeing her 2017 solo project at SculptureCenter in Long Island City, Paul Laster will talk to the Los Angeles-based artist about her inventive use of such traditional materials as wax, bronze and glass, which she poetically employs in the creation of her compelling sculptures and installations, including the mixed-media project that she currently has on view at the Aspen Art Museum.
