hey babe take a walk on the wild side, Sarah Cain's site-specific painting on the exterior of LAND HQ, responds directly to the lively intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Highland Avenue, engaging with the architectural features and varying material qualities of the strip mall wall. The layered and dimensional painting expands beyond the wall surface and onto the security gates and railings, encompassing LAND’s office space and enlivening the previously mundane utilitarian features. Facing south on Santa Monica Boulevard, Cain’s sprayed and splashed abstracted forms and vibrant colors found in surrounding signage lyrically move along the building’s surfaces, visually conveying the work’s title from Lou Reed’s infamous song, “Walk on the Wild Side” from 1972.

On December 13, 2014, LAND hosted a celebration of Cain’s recently completed site-specific painting, hey babe take a walk on the wild side, on the exterior of the LAND HQ. The opening reception and holiday party featured an ongoing anthology of images and music that Cain draws from in her continuously evolving approach to site-specific installation and bold experimentation in site and context, curated and presented by the artist.  Holiday drinks and snacks were served, and items were collected for LAND's neighbors, the LA LGBT Youth Center on Highland.
