London Original Print Fair 2019 Highlights

From 25-28 April 2019, the Royal Academy of Arts hosts the London Original Print Fair (LOPF), UK’s longest running art fair. LOPF brings together under one roof the major print publishers presenting hot-off-the-press works by leading contemporary artists, along with dealers in the finest prints by old and modern masters. This, the 34th Edition, explores the entire range of printmaking techniques and offers the opportunity to buy and experience original work from all eras of printmaking. New for 2019 is a partnership with Jerwood, with a substantial award to support emerging printmakers.

Celebrating Newly Published Editions One of the great strengths of the London Original Print Fair is the unparalleled selection of contemporary prints on offer. Newly and recently published works for sale at the 2019 Fair include:

• Alan Cristea’s newly published prints by Cornelia Parker and Joe Tilson, alongside recent works by Richard Long, Pablo Bronstein and Richard Woods.
• Karsten Schubert’s new series of works on paper by Ann-Marie James after Albrecht Dürer’s Small Passion.
• Worton Hall’s new project by Sir Peter Blake entitled Ways of Making which includes etchings, screenprints and aquatints.
• Rabley Gallery’s stand focusing on monoprints with artworks by Rebecca Salter, Eileen Cooper, Ian Chamberlain and Katherine Jones. New editions include a series of woodcuts by Nana Shiomi.
• Atelier Rose Gray’s series of new screenprints by Stephen Chambers at this, their first LOPF.
• Eames Fine Art’s new series of prints by Sophie Layton following her residency in Japan.
• Norway’s Kunstverket’s collaboration between rising star, Sverre Bjertnes and Bjarne Melgaard. The series of etchings and monotypes are shown alongside new works by Hanne Borchgrevink, one of Norway’s leading artists.
• Paupers Press are bringing new collaborations with Hughie O’Donoghue, Stephen Chambers and Sarah Ball. Recently published etchings by Jake & Dinos Chapman will be shown for the first time in the UK.

Rare Old and Modern Masters

• CG Boerner bring a number of important Old Master prints including Goya’s etching entitled No se puede saber por qué. ca. 1808–1814.
• Bernard Jacobson celebrates 50 years as a print publisher by presenting a group of significant prints he wished he had published, including key works by Dürer, Goya, Warhol, Ruscha and Hockney.
• Gerrish Fine Art chart the development of Modern British Art from 1910 to 1950 on their stand. Alongside key works from the First World War and linocuts from the Grosvenor School, Gerrish have three rare mezzotints by JMW Turner entitled Little Liber c. 1822.
• Galerie Boisserée return to LOPF with an important complete portfolio of 15 aquatints by Joan Miró, alongside Picasso lithographs, Matisse aquatints and a stunning early cubist etching by Georges Braque.

Prizes and Awards at the London Original Print Fair 2019 As well as promoting private collecting of prints, LOPF is passionate about supporting the future of printmaking and helping to build public print collections, through a series of prizes and initiatives.

2019 sees the launch of the Jerwood Printmaking Today Prize, a new award for an emerging printmaker. Open to artists up to the age of 35, LOPF exhibitors are invited to nominate up to five young artists who show a strong commitment to printmaking. From a shortlist of five, the winner will be announced on 24 April and receives £2,500 and a profile article in Printmaking Today.

• Jerwood and LOPF have also teamed up to increase the print prize at the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition 2019, the Jerwood London Original Print Fair Print Prize. Winners of this annual prestigious printmaking prize will now receive £10,000.
• The Hallett Independent Acquisitions Award 2019 offers a museum or gallery in the UK £8,000 to spend on one or more original prints from the Fair for their collection.
• The winners of the Jealous Prize for newly graduated artists will be announced at LOPF 2019. Awarded annually to MA graduates from London’s major colleges, the prize provides a residency at the Jealous print studio.
