Guy Bourdin at Photo London 2017
Exclusively representing the estate, Louise Alexander Gallery for its first participation to Photo London at Somerset House will present a selection of iconic works and unseen archive material unearthed from Bourdin’s personal trove.
Using fashion photography as his medium, Bourdin sent out a message, exploring the realms between the absurd and the sublime. Famed for his suggestive narratives and surreal aesthetics, he radically broke conventions of commercial photography with relentless perfectionism and emotional charged energy.
A major highlight will be recently discovered unseen iconic vintage works including Polaroids and Silver prints featuring early artist portraits made by Guy Bourdin between 1950 and 1955.
This is the first time Guy Bourdin is to receive a solo presentation at an art fair in the United Kingdom.
Man Ray provided Bourdin a model of total artistic freedom, changing the course of fashion photography influencing a host of contemporary artists, photographers and filmmakers along the way. It is without question, that Guy Bourdin is now seen in the appropriate context of contemporary art.
Photo London will be hosted at Somerset House, London and run between the 18-21 May with a VIP preview on Thursday 17 May. For VIP invites please contact us at [email protected].
