NADAMiami 2018 International Gallery Prize Recipients

New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is pleased to announce Arcadia Missa from London and ASAKUSA from Tokyo as the 2018 recipients of the third annual NADA Miami International Gallery Prize.
The initiative awards galleries based outside the United States a distinctive platform to participate in NADA Miami for the first time in a sponsored booth, furthering NADA’s global mission of cultivation, support, and advancement of new and relevant voices in contemporary art. NADA Miami 2018 will take place from December 6-9, showcasing 125 exhibitors representing 43 cities from 23 different countries, 37 first time exhibitors, 64 NADA Member galleries, and 26 project spaces.Last year’s NADA Miami International Gallery Prize recipients CARNE Gallery (Bogotá) and Galeria Dawid Radziszewski (Warsaw) will return as exhibitors at NADA Miami 2018.
“The International Gallery Prize was founded to provide galleries from outside the U.S. an opportunity to participate in a NADA fair – which often happens to be their first American fair – in a way that both minimizes the financial risk and encourages experimentation. It has been a great way for us to direct attention to the quality of programs from galleries around the world,” said NADA Executive Director Heather Hubbs.

At NADA Miami, Arcadia Missa will present works by two London-based artists: otherworldly paintings by Lewis Hammond and a sculptural work, “Precious Expressions” (2018), by Reba Maybury, a vitrine filled with objects from a period of performance and labour. Arcadia Missa began as a project space in 2011 and became a gallery representing artists in late 2014. The gallery has been publishing books since 2011.
“We are very happy to have been awarded the prize and are excited to showcase two emerging British artists on an international stage; Reba Maybury and Lewis Hammond,” Arcadia Missa Founder and Director, Rozsa Farkas. “As a small, young gallery, the fair circuit and associated costs are extremely risky, and this prize has given us the opportunity to do our first US fair.”
ASAKUSA, Tokyo

At NADA Miami, ASAKUSA will present new works by Russian artist Anton Vidokle and Mexican artist Yoshua Okón. ASAKUSA was established to promote curatorial collaboration and interdisciplinary practice across borders, and the exhibition speaks to the mission of the space, exploring different geographical locations and cultural influences as a direct response to the concept of “internationality” imbued within the prize motto. Vidokle will present “Citizens of the Cosmos” (2018), a set of 18 storyboards for his new Cosmist film, and Okón will exhibit his new video installation that addresses Tokyo’s ongoing problem of household waste and growing environmental concerns.
“ASAKUSA is a platform for collaborative projects, and we are always eager to meet more individuals to work with,” said Koichiro Osaka, Founder and Director of ASAKUSA. “I hope through this award, we meet many creative people with whom we can form a relationship for future prospects.”
The 2018 International Gallery Prize recipients were selected by the NADA Miami 2018 Selection Committee. The prize is supported by visitors of NADA Miami through ticket sales.

Proceeds raised from NADA Miami ticket sales will fund the NADA Acquisition Gift for PAMM, an acquisition gift for the Pérez Art Museum Miami’s permanent collection; and the NADA International Gallery Prize, an initiative supporting first-time exhibitors traveling internationally to exhibit at NADA Miami in 2019.
