Robert Henri’s #1913ArmoryShow Manifesto
New-York Historical Society
During a trip to Paris, Robert Henri saw such radical paintings as Matisse’s Blue Nude and Duchamp’s Nude Descending a Staircase (No. 2). He created his own nude, Figure in Motion, especially for the 1913 Armory Show. Henri’s nude seems traditional in comparison to those of Matisse and Duchamp, but he made his figure modern in his own way by giving her individuality and agency: http://armory.nyhistory.org/robert-henris-manifesto/
