On Friday, November 14th, PINTA NY’s Cultural Partner The Drawing Center will present the first U.S. publication of Argentinian artist Matias Duville’s new book Alaska. A celebration of the release will take place at The Drawing Center (35 Wooster Street, New York, NY, 10013) from 10-11 AM.

Duville’s project began in 2008 when he started producing prolific drawings of the state, which he has never visited, thus offering an imaginative view of the fabled region with an ultimate goal not of accuracy, but rather creative expression of what the region represented to the artist. In 2009, Duville expanded the project, traveling to Alaska and back to view and memorize the landscape, which ultimately interjected some reality into his fictionalized representation of the state.

Fittingly, the book is divided into three volumes representing the stages of the project: before, during and after his trip to Alaska. Alaska, and after Alaska. The volumes also feature texts by Mark Polizzotti, Wells Towers, and Robert Nelson.
