BASQUIAT
BASQUIAT by Roland Hagenberg, New York 1983
Dear friends,
should you be in Munich next week, I would like to invite you to the opening of my exhibition "Basquiat: Photos by Roland Hagenberg" - Wednesday, June 4th at 7pm at ponyhof artclub contemporary art: Pestalozzistr. 14; www.ponyhof-artclub.com. On view are large-size black and white photographs that I took of Jean-Michel Basquiat in New York in the early 80s. They provide a rare glimpse into the dark studio-romanticism of a painter, who only reached the age of Egon Schiele (28) and whose work is one of the highest priced in contemporary art today. French film director Jean-Michel Vecchiet used some of the photographs for his documentary "Basquiat" - produced for the Musee d'Art Moderne in Paris in 2010.

On the occasion of this exhibition ponyhof artclub contemporary art has published a limited edition of numbered and signed boxes with eight photographs. Thanks always for your interest - and maybe we can catch up next week in Munich.
All the best, Roland
