Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami Announce Schedule of Programming for Miami Art Week

[IGNITE] and [PASSION] form this year's curatorial themes for a five-day program of contemporary, urban and fine art experiences at Mana Wynwood

Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami, two of the longest running and most progressive contemporary art shows for the fine art industry during Miami Art Week, announces this year’s five-day schedule of interactive programming, taking place December 4—8, 2019.

Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami will return to Wynwood Arts District this year, with its permanent location at Mana Wynwood – with both shows inside the convention center for the first year ever, offering an exceptional and elevated world-class experience for both exhibitors and art enthusiasts during this year’s Miami Art Week. Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami will cover more than 100,000 square feet of exhibition space and be even more accessible for visitors on foot and by car, all within walking distance from Wynwood’s trendiest restaurants, bars and retail boutiques. “We are pleased to announce our official schedule of programming for this year’s Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami,” says Eric Smith, president of Redwood Media Group. “For the first year ever, we have both shows inside the convention center at Mana Wynwood, offering exhibitors and attendees a truly world class experience. Our five-day lineup features a number of exciting activations and live demonstrations that will enhance the contemporary art being shown by more than 300 exhibitors. We are especially looking forward to a special installation “Science and Humanism” by artist Yang Yibin, together with the Art on OLED Art Lab experience that will be very compelling for attendees to see.”

To mark commencement of the five-day global kaleidoscope in contemporary art, culture and entertainment, the annual Opening Night Preview Party takes place on Wednesday, December 4th, between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and is sponsored in association with Jadot and Bulleit Bourbon. Guests will experience the Bulleit 3D Printed Frontier – a jaw dropping 3D printed bar designed by the award-winning architecture and design practice FAR and inspired by the iconic Bulleit Bourbon label and award-winning whiskey. Paired with 3D printed cocktails, guests will enjoy 3D printed light bites and live demonstrations by contemporary artist Elide Arosio, a [SOLO] Exhibitor from Elidea Art, together with urban artist Jason Skeldon.

4–9 p.m. ART LAB 1: SCIENCE AND HUMANISM Presented by artist Yang Yibin, Booth 800

A piece of cloud. Or a shadow of a cloud. Or a reflection in the shadow. They are all very clear and all changing; they are real, existing, yet they seem unreal. The thing we are seeing is not necessarily true. What we find or what we feel may be just illusions. Perhaps, we can never find the REAL TRUTH, or perhaps the absolute real does NOT exist at all. Step into Science and Humanism and find your curiosity piqued, your sense of humor teased, and realize the significance of Science and Humanism as part of each person's unique experiences.

6:30 p.m. MOSAIC MASTER: ARTIST DOUG POWELL Artblend, Booth 720

Where do old keyboards go? if they are lucky, they wind up in one of mosaic artist Doug Powell's masterpieces. It's an unusual art form: mosaic portraits and murals created with cast-off computer keys. Powell, who has been studying and perfecting his methods for many years, uses upcycled computer keys from tens of thousands of computer keyboards and arranges the retired caps using their individual character and color to complete the artwork.

7 p.m. LIVE ART! ANNA THURBER Artblend, Booth 720

Grow beautiful flowers, pick and freeze them in a block of ice, then take your chain saw and carve them so you can take a photo in their frozen state. This is Anna Thurber's passion and her art. Watch Anna carve her next masterpiece and takes the photos just in time before it all melts away.

Witness the next urban art masterpiece being created live. The Jason Perez Art Collective comes to Spectrum Miami for the first time, bringing a collection of global artists and trendsetters that span from coast to coast. Cody Parker’s style has a blend of fine art mixed with modern street art. More recently, Cody has been developing photorealism with extensive use linear graphics, accented with color. Up close, the viewer will see the abstract concept and only as the viewer moves further away does Cody’s image begin to take life.

3 p.m. THIS CONNECT Lounge Area

In the age of social media, it seems as though people have forgotten or need to be taught what true connection and communication feels like. thisconnect.us is an ongoing social experiment that challenges the audience to form connections through a set of activities designed to help break the ice without any use of technology.

4 p.m. LIVE ART! ROXY SORA Artblend, Booth 720

Color! That's the first word generally used to describe Roxy Sora's art. Communicating her experience of color through the strokes of my brush, watching the fluidity of the colors form their own vision of form. Join Sora as she creates one of her colorful works of art and be struck with the same feeling of wonder and awe that she feels as she creates.

12–8 p.m. ART LAB 3: IGNITING THE MATADOR: A LAMBORGHINI INSTALLATION Presented by street artist Cloe Hakakian, Spectrum Miami Entrance

With Spectrum's curatorial theme [IGNITE] as inspiration, street artist and muralist Cloe Hakakian will use a Lamborghini Aventador-S Roadster as her canvas, fueling her creative passions to create a masterful work of art. Coming back to Spectrum Miami, the place that spurred her artistic endeavors, Hakakian will transform the Roadster while we watch.

2 p.m. LIVE ART! DIANE PORTWOOD Jason Perez Art Collective, Booth 901

Witness the next urban art masterpiece being created live. The Jason Perez Art Collective comes to Spectrum Miami for the first time, bringing a collection of global artists and trendsetters that span from coast to coast. Diane Portwood was an avid competitor in the sport of eventing, an Olympic equestrian sport. After a major debilitating injury, she turned to the canvas. Many of Diane's works feature a theme of growth and decay, a balance of hope and cynicism representing the struggles she faced as she moved on with her life in the wake of the injury. Stop by, you won't want to miss Diane Portwood creating one of her iconic images.

2 p.m. LIVE ART! SEBASTIAN FERRERIA Jason Perez Art Collective, Booth 901

Witness the next urban art masterpiece being created live. The Jason Perez Art Collective comes to Spectrum Miami for the first time, bringing a collection of global artists and trendsetters that span from coast to coast. Sebastian Ferreria's work focuses on an amalgam of abstract calligraphy and pop art. He tries to create intense portraiture blending his love of graffiti and lettering. Clome see this passionate artist who likes to incite and provoke feeling from people who view his work. Ashe says, "My work isn’t only about how it makes me feel, it's about how it makes you feel." Ever been warned about the seven deadly sins? Ever thought one was more deadly than another? According to the standard list, they are pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth. Come on over to see what the Sharp Bros. have created–a collection of artful timepieces to track the sins for you. Indulge yourself just a bit and watch as Aladdin creates one of his street art masterpieces themed by the seven deadly sins.

3:30 p.m. MAKING A STATEMENT IN A GHILLIE SUIT Unaffiliate.us, Booth S516

A ghillie suit is a type of camouflage clothing designed to resemble the background environment it's worn within. But what if we look at our everyday clothing as a ghillie suit? Stop by and see the artist's interpretation and message in this unique installation.

Red Dot Miami, a curated gallery-only contemporary art fair, now in its 14th year, will be located adjacent to Spectrum Miami and inside Mana Wynwood Convention Center for its second year, as part of the highly anticipated annual presentation of leading galleries and their artists. 4–9 p.m. ART LAB 2: TINY PRICKS PROJECT Presented by Contemporary Art Projects, Cafe Area

Tiny Pricks is a public art project created and curated by artist Diana Weymar. Contributors from around the world are stitching Donald Trump’s words into textiles, creating the material record of his presidency and of the movement against it. Tiny Pricks Project holds a creative space in a tumultuous political climate. The collection counterbalances the impermanence of Twitter and other social media and Trump’s statements as president through the use of textiles that embody warmth, craft, permanence, civility, and a shared history. The daintiness and integrity of each piece stand in stark contrast to his presidency.

4–9 p.m. ART LAB 3: ART ON OLED Presented by LG Display, Red Dot Miami Entrance

In the art world, critical conversations revolve around color, composition, medium, and artist intention. Step inside the Art on OLED experience, and the conversation could almost be the same. Meet Enrique Cabrera, a contemporary Mexican multidisciplinary artist and a young entrepreneur. Originally from Veracruz, he is a renowned musician, sculptor, and professional photographic restorer, dedicated to promoting Mexican culture, taking Mexican art farther than its frontiers. Cabrera's newest collection is his monumental sculptures Palmarius, Latin for "masterpiece." The Palmarius skulls and sculptures showcased are 6-feet tall and have incredible artisan detail.

There’s a vibrant joy to be found in Florida-based artist Ilan Neuwirth’s work that he hopes to spark in others. Come on over and watch as artist Tysen Knight creates a masterwork of his life's influences. Growing up in the peak of the street art movement, Knight was inspired by the works of famous street artists such as Jean- Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. Knight's art style also reflects the styles of fine artist Pablo Picasso and pop artist Andy Warhol. Knight uses these influences to create unique pop culture graffiti pieces that can not only be found on city murals but also in fine art galleries. Knight's artwork has blurred the line between street art and fine art to create something new that captivates people from all walks of life.

12–6 p.m. ART LAB 1: TRIBUTE TO THE MASTERS: KINETIC INSTALLATION Presented by Contemporary Art Projects USA, Booth 101

Step inside and walk into and on Hugo Diaz's special kinetic installation. As an artist, Diaz is an important member of what could be called the new generation of Venezuelan kinetic art. This art is based on the aesthetic of real movement and the virtual in geometric abstraction, as created by the use of combined simple geometric forms in subjective compositions. It's literally two diverse spatial dimensions combined in an effort to represent a three-dimensional reality. In this special installation, Diaz has set out to go beyond what has been reached previously via an exacting, errorless, and rigorous method to achieve it.
