How do we see ourselves? Women Painting Women exhibition offers a glimpse....
"In 2008, artists Sadie Jernigan Valeri, Alia El-Bermani and Diane Feissel started a blog entitled Women Painting Women. The concept came out of an online discussion detailing how contemporary women artists handle women as subjects. Inspired by these discussions but failing to find a comprehensive online resource cataloguing the work of such artists, the site was started as a way of highlighting underrepresented female artists actively portraying female subjects in the figurative tradition. Since then, Women Painting Women has featured the work of more than 320 figurative painters from around the world. "
This September, The Richard J Demato Gallery is proud to be one of the seven galleries to host this juried exhibition. We are thrilled to have an opportunity to provide a venue for all women to share their souls, their hearts and their story, in their own way. Art is many things, but for artist's, it's their voice, and collectively, they all want, deserve, and need to speak to us. It's chilling and takes your breath away to see a room full of artwork from women painting women.
