Special Homecoming Exhibition <Ahn Chang Hong: Ghost Fashion> in token of the 60th Anniversary of Korea-Ecuador Diplomatic Relations
Savina Museum of Contemporary Art(Director Lee Myung-ok), located in Jingwan-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, hosts the homecoming exhibition of <Ahn Chang Hong Special Exhibition> from 2022 February 23 to May 29.
Including about 60 representative works by the artist, <Ahn Chang Hong Special Exhibition> has been held last year at the Casa Museo Guayasamín and La Capilla del Hombre(“The Chapel of Man”), both located in Quito, in honor of the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties between Korea and Ecuador. As being the first attempt of culture exchange between Korea and Ecuador, the exhibition attracted noteworthy attention that it had served as an arranger creating opportunities for inter-cultural exchange in both countries, at the national level.
Ahn Chang Hong showcases works, which keenly criticize true nature of the very basic yet dark desire which dominates people’s lives, and interrogate concepts of ownership and production of capitalist society, along with extreme anxiety and fear stemming from the pandemic era that struck the world in 2020.
Ahn Chang Hong has done new attempt for this homecoming exhibition. Not only including 20 paintings from the “Ghost Fashion” series, which had been presented in the Monteverde Hall of Casa Museo Guayasamín while alluring interests from Ecuador and press media, and 80 digital paintings produced with utilization of digital techniques, new works are also presented in this exhibition. 9 new oil painting works from the “Ghost Fashion” series, specially produced for this homecoming exhibition, along with 3 three-dimensional works developed from the previous two-dimensional works are on display.
In addition, Savina Museum of Contemporary Art would like to present works in total of about 150, featuring 23 sculptures from the “Mask” series and digital paintings displayed on the transparent monitor, which will be showcased for the first time on the 2nd and the 3rd floor. Especially on the 3rd floor, under the auspice of LG Display, digital paintings drawn by a digital pen tool equipped with smartphone are displayed on a transparent OLED display with cutting-edge technology embedded. While using it as a form of installation element, the work explores technical and aesthetic convergence and expansion of art and technology.
