Gerhard Richter's "Facsimile Objects"
Serpentine Galleries and HENI Productions are delighted to present this series of prints by Gerhard Richter. HENI Productions' most recent four editions (P8 to P11) have been specially created for the Serpentine Galleries.
This group of work is based on Gerhard Richter’s seminal "Flow" paintings, which were created by capturing poured enamel paints underneath a fixed glass surface. High-resolution photographs of these original works have been transformed into chromatographic prints, precisely reproducing the combination of chance gesture and careful composition within the originals.
These editions are referred to by the artist as "facsimile objects." Although they proceed from the "Flow" paintings, this series is distinct from the originals in a number of ways: in some cases, the artist has decided to present them differently, such as hanging them different ways up to the original painting; in others, they represent the only version of paintings that no longer exist.
Print purchases benefit the Serpentine Galleries. Championing new ideas in contemporary art since 1970, the Serpentine has presented pioneering exhibitions of 2,263 artists over 45 years, showing a wide range of work from emerging practitioners to the most internationally recognised artists and architects of our time.
