SP-Arte, the leading art fair in Latin America will return for its 12th edition April 7–10, with a VIP/Professional Preview on April 6.

Held in the historic Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion, designed by Pritzker Laureate Oscar Niemeyer, the Fair presents a dynamic mix of local and emerging artists alongside internationally renowned names. In the Main sector, notable Brazilian galleries Fortes Vilaça, Luisa Strina, Mendes Wood DM, Nara Roesler and Vermelho will return in addition to high-profile international exhibitors: Continua, David Zwirner, Gagosian, kurimanzutto, Lisson, Michael Werner, neugerriemschneider and White Cube.

SP-Arte’s curated sections continue to encourage cutting edge programs and artworks that challenge fairgoers. In the Solo sector, curated by Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, a young independent curator based between London and Lisbon, exhibitors are invited to feature booths with a focus on a single artist. Project highlights include, Hamish Fulton (espaivisor, Valencia), Henri Chopin (Richard Saltoun, London), Marilia Furman (PSM, Berlin), Ciprian Muresan (Plan B, Berlin) and a strong presence of young Brazilian galleries Emma Thomas, Sé, and Warm.
After a huge success in 2015, Open Plan, a section dedicated to large works and installations will return in 2016 exclusively presenting commissioned works by SP-Arte, organized and curated by XII Cuenca Biennial curator, Jacopo Crivelli Visconti. The sector includes works by the Italian Francesco Arena, the Cyprian Christodoulos Panayiotou and the young Brazilian Daniel de Paula

The Fair will resume its exploration of performance art with the return of the sector, Performance, curated by Cauê Alves, assistant curator of the Brazil pavilion for the 56th Venice Biennial, sponsored by the University of Belas Artes.
In addition to its gallery program, SP-Arte/2016 will present Talks, panel discussions organized with the Brazilian art magazine, ARTE!Brasileiros, featuring prominent artists, critics, curators, and collectors.

SP-Arte’s gallery program and parallel agenda of events combined with São Paulo’s creative energy offer a unique moment to experience the city and all it has to offer.
