Unseen Photo Fair 2016 Programme | Face to Face: African Portraiture
Onsite Project
Friday 23 September, 17.00-21.00
Come face to face with the most recent developments in African Portraiture. Studio portraits are a long-standing tradition within African photographic history, however Unseen has chosen to look towards the future of African portraiture, focusing on new approaches as they are currently evolving. At our very own onsite pop-up studios, both established and emerging artists from the African continent are invited to document visitors of Unseen. Each visitor gets one opportunity to have their portrait taken, after which the photographs are printed onsite, so that they can be taken home directly. Additionally, a digital pop-up exhibition showcases the works of the participating artists to offer visitors context in interpreting the artists’ documentations. Both the pop-up studio and the exhibition are co-curated by Unseen and Anna Alix Koffi (OFF the Wall).
Participating artist are Atong Atem, Delphine Diallo, Lebohang Kganye, Louis Philippe de Gagoue, Pierre–Christope Gam, Zanele Muholi, and Laila Hida.
Price: €20,00 per print
