About ZⓢONAMACO 2017

Each year ZⓢONAMACO, Latin America’s prominent contemporary art fair, brings collectors, specialists, and galleries from around the world together in Mexico City. Founded by Zélika García in 2002, ZⓢONAMACO has established itself as one of the most notable platforms for selling, displaying, and promoting international contemporary art in the region.

Annually, the fair features more than a hundred galleries, publications, and cultural institutions in five sections: Main Section, New Proposals, ZⓢONAMACO Sur, Modern Art, and Design. Exhibitors are selected by an international committee, which is composed of renowned gallerists and specialized curators.

Main Section

Participation in this section is determined through an open application and subsequent acceptance from the selection committee, including:

  • Patricia Ortiz Monasterio – OMR, Mexico City
  • Stefania Bortolami – Bortolami Gallery, New York
  • Ben Loveless – Galerie Nordenhake, Berlin/ Stockholm
  • Fernando Mesta – House of Gaga, Mexico City

New Proposals

New Proposals is a section of the fair dedicated to emerging galleries and artists. Established in 2009, it has had Pablo León de la Barra, Mirjam Varadinis, Pablo del Val and Humberto Moro among its curators.

Celaya Brothers Gallery

ZⓈONAMACO Sur

ZⓈONAMACO Sur features solo projects selected by a guest curator. Established in 2009, it has had Adriano Pedrosa, Patrick Charpenel, Juan Andrés Gaitán, Luis Silva and João Mourão among its curators.

Modern Art

This section of the fair was established in 2013 in order to introduce modern art and modern masters. During its first three years, this section had Daniel Garza Usabiaga, Monserrat Albores and Mauricio Marcín as its respective curators. Since 2016, this section has been curated by a selection committee.

Design

ZⓈONAMACO Diseño is a section devoted to modern and contemporary design. It was established in 2012 and since 2014, it has been curated by Cecilia León de la Barra.
