Jeff Koons’s Puppy was first unveiled in 1992, as a mammoth 40-foot-tall flower-covered topiary. The colorful and ever-changing sculpture is now on permanent display at the Guggenheim Bilbao. Modeled after a West Highland Terrier, Puppy exemplifies the artist’s childlike fascination with everyday objects such as balloon dogs and vacuum cleaners, and his ability to transmit the wonder with which he looks at the banal to the viewers of his works. Koons released 3,000 original editions of a vase version of Puppy in 1998, and an additional 100 editions were released on May 30, 2018 to celebrate the sculpture’s twentieth anniversary.
