About
Barnard presents a regular program of solo exhibitions by its stable of artists, as well as group shows and collaborative projects with invited artists that explore diverse aspects of contemporary art practice.
Barnard was founded in 2010 by owner and Director Chris Barnard. The gallery represents emerging and mid-career artists from Africa and Europe.
The work of a number of the gallery’s artists has been been included in curated shows at significant museums and prominent venues in capital cities including London, Paris and New York.
Barnard regularly participates in local and international art fairs including amongst others 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, London / NYC; AKAA – Also Known As Africa, Paris and Volta, Basel / NYC.
The gallery has an active book publishing program, examples of which have been added to the special library collections of the WITS Art Museum (WAM), Johannnesburg and Pratt Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York
