The Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in the United States. It was founded in 1832 when artist-patriot John Trumbull gave over 100 of his paintings to Yale College. Trumbull’s original paintings of the American Revolution are now joined by an encyclopedic collection of more than 200,000 objects that range from ancient times to the present day and represent cultures from around the globe.
The Gallery's mission is to encourage an understanding of art and its role in society through direct engagement with original works of art. Programs include exhibition tours, lectures, and performances, all free and open to the public. For more information, call 203-432-0600 or visit the website at artgallery.yale.edu.
