This exhibition presents the unpublished works of Massimo Gurnari created in recent years of strong change for the artist.
This series of self-portraits was born from the artist's need to express himself directly, without frills or distractions. They are paintings reduced to the essential both in the background and in their self-representation delved right down to the circulatory system, then becoming images not so much of the physical, but of the thoughts that continually afflict the human mind. Massimo Gurnari therefore wants to create self-portraits that connect more to thought and the internal world than to the external one, in some cases revealing a thought or something that emerges from these figures. As in the work SELF PORTRAIT IN SOLITUDE (2024) which sees a dark blue cloud emerge from the yellow figure. The references to movements and artists of the past are numerous: from abstract painting to the metaphysical world recalled by wooden shapes such as mannequins, also passing, conceptually, to the world of arte povera. This series sees the use of new colors never used by the artist, as if they wanted to inaugurate a new artistic period for Massimo, who by also covering previous canvases sees the opening of a new period for the Milanese artist.
