Artgal.Online presents Zimbabwe's first virtual art exhibition, "An African Story," showcasing 20 talented artists. This event celebrates Zimbabwe's cultural narrative and artistic excellence. The exhibition is divided into three distinct centers, each offering a unique perspective on the theme. The Main Hall features 15 male artists, many well-established in the Zimbabwean art scene. Curated by Tonderai Mujuru and Keith Zenda, this section delves into issues like litter problems and community challenges. Tonderai Mujuru, deeply committed to African wildlife conservation, expresses this through stunning charcoal drawings that capture Africa's natural beauty. Video presentations provide insight into the curators' visions and the impact they aim to achieve. Each artist’s statement is accessible with a click, allowing visitors to engage deeply with the stories behind the art. A section for female artists emphasizes the exhibition’s commitment to female empowerment in the arts. Despite their smaller number, these women are given double the space to showcase their work, inspiring more women to pursue and exhibit their talents. Among the featured artists are three of Zimbabwe’s finest, whose works highlight the strength and creativity of Zimbabwean women. Female empowerment is a recurring theme in Keith Zenda’s work, and he actively participates in various projects to uplift women in society. The third center is a tribute to one of Zimbabwe’s revered sculptors, Sampson Kuvenguhwa. This exclusive exhibition traces his journey from the late 1980s to the present, showcasing his evolution as an artist. Known for his meticulous straight lines and unparalleled polishing skills, Sampson’s work is both spiritually profound and technically masterful. His refusal to conform to gallery expectations and his dedication to authentic African storytelling have earned him a respected place in Zimbabwe’s art history. The exhibition launches with a vernissage on September 21st at Siyekhaya Estate in Harare, where all 19 artists will display select works. This invitation-only event offers an exclusive preview of the online exhibition, which will simultaneously go live on Artgal.Online, the digital platform of Swiss-Zim Heritage Gallery. This marks the beginning of what is anticipated to be an annual celebration of Zimbabwean art, connecting local talent with a global audience.
