JOSEPH KURHAJEC
JOSEPH KURHAJEC
" His work, figurative, does not belong to any «well-meaning» trend. The modelling of the clay is the basis for the sculpture by Joseph Kurhajec. Once cooked, the piece is completed by adding various objects and materials : flint, horn, feather, hair, fur, string or rope, even according to the subject addressed, brush, knife... The modelling is carried out in such a way that the elements can be attached by cords or embedded naturally in the shape."
" Highly organic, animated by a vital instinct that boldly mixes forces and materials from different realms, the works of Kurhajec, in all its periods, are like objects of power whose effectiveness, often fascinating, comes from the internal tension, even the short circuit between the contradictory elements that compose them. To this extent, they are works that, at least ideally, are closer to the primitive conception of art than to contemporary theories of the industrial world. They tend to operate a sort of symbolic regression to the roots, magical and collective, of creation.”
