DESERT LIGHT

DESERT LIGHT

DESERT LIGHT is a body of work that responds to the sense of infinite space that drifts in on California's ocean breezes and across the Southwest's vast, desert expanses. Light and space naturally elongate in these geographies and Moses channels this time warp through both material and process.
Andy Moses is interested in pushing the physical properties of paint. Through chemical reactions, viscosity interference, and gravity dispersion, Moses creates elaborate compositions that mimic nature and its forces.

Born in Los Angeles in 1962, Moses attended California Institute of the Arts from 1979 to 1981. After graduation, he moved to New York and had first group exhibition at Artist's Space in 1986. His first solo exhibition followed shortly thereafter at Annina Nosei Gallery in 1987. He has continued to exhibit in New York, L.A., and abroad over the past twenty-five years. Moses moved back to the Los Angeles area in 2000, where he currently lives and works.
