Braverman Gallery is proud to announce the opening of 'Mere Things' at The Jewish Museum in New York—The first solo U.S. museum exhibition dedicated to the work of gallery artist Ilit Azoulay. Curated by Shira Backer.
For the Jewish Museum, Azoulay presents a balanced exhibition—one that oscillates between a handful of her extant projects and presents new work specifically for this presentation. As an artist who works only in discrete series, visitors will get in-depth looks at each of her archival explorations, immersing themselves in her vast research-based practice. The exhibition includes a new piece, 'Unity Totem', that was created in specific dialogue with the Jewish Museum’s collection—a unique institutional archive of more than 30,000 works of all mediums and spanning more than 6,000 years of social and art history. At a time of renewed interest in alternative futures and social realities, Azoulay’s work breaks down hierarchies of time and space, giving audiences the opportunity to explore alternatives to male-dominated or Eurocentric forms of storytelling and knowledge transfer.
