Exploring the profound potential of abstraction to express transformative experiences.
Buysse Gallery proudly presents “SHIFT,” the first group exhibition within our program, focusing on the transformative power of abstract art across Europe. Curated by renowned art historian Carmen Casiuc, “SHIFT” invites viewers to engage with a multifaceted exploration of stylistic and thematic relationships in abstract art. This exhibition is not just a display of art objects; it is an evolving framework that continuously reconfigures until the end of December 2024. It begins with the pioneering work of artists such as Cyrielle Gulacsy (FR), Tom Van Puyvelde (BE), Lieven Deconinck (BE), Emanuel Seitz (GER), Irina Ojovan (MD), Damien Bénéteau (FR), Stien Bekaert (BE), Bram Bogart (BE), and Tycjan Knut (PL). Each artist offers a distinct perspective that contributes to the overarching narrative of transformation and innovation within the realm of abstract art. The exhibition space itself is an active participant in this exploration, with new works and arrangements introduced as responses to its initial iteration. This ongoing transformation within the gallery space mirrors the continuous evolution of abstract art, making “SHIFT” a living, breathing entity that invites viewers to return and rediscover. “SHIFT” also honors the legacy of abstraction, celebrating the innovative spirit of contemporary artists who push the boundaries of traditional views and invite us to redefine our understanding of visual narratives. Through dynamic forms, colors, and textures, each piece encourages an introspective look at feelings and perceptions, offering a profound emotional language inherent in abstraction. Join us in this unique journey through the vibrant world of European abstract art on Artsy, where each visit brings new insights and deeper understanding of the transformative essence that lies within simplicity. This setup is designed to captivate and inform potential viewers on Artsy, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the exhibition’s scope and significance while inviting them to explore the artworks in depth.
Thematic dialogue
Deconinck’s abstract painting and Stephan Marienfeld’s sculptures at Buysse Gallery. Deconinck’s bold blue abstract forms contrast with Marienfeld’s sleek sculptures, creating a dynamic interplay of form and material. Positioned by large windows, the artworks interact with the seaside environment, enhancing their thematic dialogue with shifting natural light.

DECONINCK
Lieven Deconinck’s Untitled (blue) from 2024 is a striking composition that merges gestural abstraction with a restrained colour palette, creating a dynamic interplay between printmaking and painting.
