Margaret Roleke was born in New York and currently lives in Connecticut. She creates sculptures, installations and prints that deal with current issues; gun control , women's rights and war are often explored in her practice. Her work has been exhibited widely including at the Aldrich Museum and Pen +Brush in New York.
"America faces large challenges; racism, gun violence, global warming, and an assault on the truth. My work is an urgent response to these issues."
"I create cyanotypes, prints, sculptures and installations that explore these themes. Living near Sandy Hook Elementary School, the site of a 2012 mass shooting, inspired sculptures made out of shotgun shells. To this day, I donate a percentage of all work sold to organizations that work for gun control. I move between different mediums creating work that speaks to current issues. "
