Featured in this year’s Christmas Gift Guide is Service Updates, an 11-colour screenprint on 300gsm paper by street artist TOX. Created to celebrate the artist’s well-known association with the London Underground, Service Updates reimagines an iconic tube line board in TOX’s distinct spray paint style.
"People say graffiti is ugly, irresponsible and childish... but that's only if its done properly" - Banksy
TOX first gained significant attention in London’s street art and graffiti scenes in the early 2000s. Known for his repetitive tag style, Tox's work typically consists of the letters ‘TOX’ followed by the year (such as ‘TOX02,’ and ‘TOX03’). He applied this across numerous locations, most significantly, London’s Underground network on walls, and its trains. Due to his sheer ubiquity and distinctive yet simple tag Tox has become one of the most recognisable figures in street art.
Following an arrest in 2011, prosecutors mocked TOX calling him ‘no Banksy’ for his “lack of creative artistry”. As an act of solidarity, Banksy created an artwork of a young boy blowing the TOX tag as a bubble. The work is famed for a call back to Banksy’s graffiti roots and showed his enduring connection to the London scene.

Tox’s notoriety has since gained him international art world recognition; with galleries featuring his pieces, which often remain divisive. His legacy within street art largely lies in his persistence and the minimalist, repetitive approach that highlighted the divide between street art as cultural expression versus public disruption.
