ANTHONY GOICOLEA, Back to One
ANTHONY GOICOLEA, Back to One
We are more than grateful for the reception we received on Thursday, April 13th at the opening of Anthony Goicolea's exhibition, Back to One, at Galería Senda.
With this exhibition, the artist marks the third solo exhibition in which we have been able to contemplate a turn in his personal style, which has been notably reflected on the canvas.
The artist himself details in his statement that his work is essentially a vehement reaction to a lifetime of imposed limits, from culture to gender and traditions. Goicolea is very aware, and it is exceptionally reflected, how these social constructions define one's identity, gender, and place.
In this way, the Back to One collection reflects moving portraits that allude to the idea of a synthesis of intercultural references, and even with flashes of a dreamlike world, which generates this dynamism of parallels between the past and present.
The artist, using a painting technique in which he applies thick layers on rough linen, intends to reveal the previous layers of paint to denote more depth that captivates the viewer and immerses them in the emotions of his models.
The main thread in the exhibition is the characteristic painting technique that denotes the tension of the narrative between the past and present, as well as reality and fantasy, and of course the relationship of cultural events with personal identity.

With the presence of the artist at the exhibition, a dynamic of conversations was created in which the artist and the viewer entered into a dialogue, converged between the painting technique, chromaticism, and form itself.
