To bring a bit of colour back into winter, we're pleased to share one of Marielle Paul's paintings every day as we approach the Holiday Season!
In her recent paintings, Marielle Paul seeks a balance between letting go and regaining control - of the hand and of the mind.
The carefully prepared chromatic range results from a desire to translate a feeling, a precise emotion, whose perception is then confirmed by color.
Marielle Paul’s paintings are made up of inseparable elements —sometimes layered, sometimes juxtaposed— reflecting a sensitive, sincere, and playful observation of her environment.
Representations of nature and abstract forms interact and come together on paper in an intuitive and liberated game. What links are created, what stories are told by these poetic mechanics? The colours, worked in flat tints or vibrant flows, challenge and catch the eye, leading it into the gestures of the brush, meandering in an endless movement.
Marielle Paul (Lyon, 1960) graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and a DEA in landscaping. She puts her love of nature - its forms, colors, and freedom - at the core of her practice. Working mainly with gouache and ink on paper, in dimensions ranging from largescale to notebook, her work blends the intimate with the universal, composing a multiple sensory and emotional repertoire. After several group and solo exhibitions - in galleries (Galerie Jean Fournier, Galerie Jean Brolly, Galerie Luis Adelantado (Spain)) and institutions (Musée d'art et archéologie Joseph Déchelette de Roanne) - she began her collaboration with Galerie Maria Lund in 2023 with the exhibition Calepin. In France Marielle Paul's work has been included in the permanent collections of the Musées des Beaux-arts de Brest and Roanne, the Musée de Rennes and Valence, the Artothèques de Nantes, the CAP Saint Fons d'Angers, the BNF, the FNAC and the FRAC Auvergne.
Marielle Paul’s work can be seen until 17.01.2025 at the Institut français du Danemark (Copenhagen) in the exhibition Millepatte – Tusindben, a duo show by Marielle and Maud Paul.
The exhibition closes on 17.01.2025 with the unveiling of a mural by Marielle Paul, commissioned by the Institut français du Danemark.
Millepatte – Tusindben - until Jan. 17 - Institut Français du Danemark
Marielle, the mother, paints in Paris while Maud, the daughter, designs furniture in Maastricht. "Millepatte -Tusindben" is their mother-daughter conversation, nourished by a shared taste for play and a common fascination for the vitality of nature: shapes and colors abound and vibrate with humor. Marielle's restless Mosaïques make their way along the wall, while Maud's Millipede sofa takes a few steps on the floor...
