Dylan Martinez "Glass Water Balloons"

Dylan Martinez "Glass Water Balloons"

NEW RELEASE! Dylan Martinez’s hyperrealistic balloon sculptures are made of solid sculpted glass sandblasted and acid-etched to resemble real water balloons. The sculptures are made in small batches, and each color is hand-mixed. Each piece is unique and is signed on the base by the artist.
Beyond their technical & conceptual merits, these sculptures uniquely evoke deep emotional responses from viewers. They can trigger nostalgia, transporting viewers back to their childhoods when water balloon fights were a source of joy and laughter.
Kasper Contemporary is pleased to present Dylan Martinez's newest glass series of colorful, hyper-realistic water balloon sculptures. The series showcases Martinez's technical prowess by meticulously crafting molten glass into convincing trompe l'oeil replicas of colored water balloons. Each sculpture captures the delicate contour and matt surface with astonishing precision, inviting viewers to marvel at the seemingly impossible transformation of solid glass into the appearance of a malleable balloon. Martinez's glass water balloons are distinguished by their remarkable realism and the conceptual depth they evoke. By presenting these mundane objects in an unexpected medium, Martinez prompts viewers to question the nature of reality and the reliability of their perceptions. Trained in traditional glassblowing techniques, Martinez is a master at manipulating glass to discover new modes of perspective and create a new way of seeing the world. He received his MFA from Ball State University and has studied with various master artisans, including at a residency with Venetian glass artisans in Murano, Italy. His artistic endeavors have earned him global acclaim, with his sculptures gracing esteemed public and private collections across the US and abroad. Publication features include Elle Decoration UK, The Netherlands, Germany, American Craft Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, and Aesthetica Magazine.
