Hong Mihee : Scenery of My Own

Kimreeaa Gallery proudly presents "Hong Mihee: Scenery of My Own," a solo exhibition that invites you to explore the beauty of everyday landscapes through a fresh and distinctive lens. Hong Mihee draws inspiration from the natural world that surrounds us daily. In her own words, she shares, "I tend to interpret landscapes uniquely through my own eyes, viewing them with an attitude akin to appreciating natural abstract art."
Mihee's process involves capturing moments from the landscape and carefully distilling them into simplified forms and colors.
She utilizes paper boards to create what she calls "low relief paintings," with thin paper boards serving as her paints. Layers of fundamental materials on wooden panels add depth and dimension to her images. Through this intricate technique, geometric forms and captivating color combinations emerge, creating what she refers to as her "scenery of my own." The artist's aim is to uncover the often-overlooked beauty hidden within these landscapes. Take, for example, her work "Still Waters Run Deep," inspired by a tranquil fishing spot. This piece carries a deeper meaning beyond its surface, as Mihee explains, "Throughout the process of creating this artwork, I contemplated the perfect title and came across the English saying 'Still waters run deep.' This saying implies that quiet waters may conceal deep thoughts. I thought to convey this symbolic depth through my art." This exhibition showcases landscapes composed of the most fundamental elements—form, lines, and colors. Yet, these landscapes transform based on various factors, including the space where the artwork is placed, the psychological impact of colors, and the angles from which viewers observe them. We invite you to immerse yourself in Hong Mihee's solo exhibition, "Scenery of My Own," and embark on a journey to discover your very own personal landscapes.
