Catarina Kylberg

Catarina Kylberg grew up and works in Uppsala, Sweden. She creates naive paintings based on her beloved city.
Creating art is as important to me as the air I'm breathing.
My creation is rooted in a longing for the carefree world of childhood. A softer world where I find comfort and security. Maybe it's that creative people have thinner walls and this is my way of building a wall of warmth and love. In my fantasy worlds, worry and darkness have no place, they are kept out. I want to give away light and joy, not darkness and gloomy scenes. My mind is constantly racing, and I absorb everything around me. I collect ideas, people, surroundings, and meetings for my artworks. When I create, I find peace and quietness. Creation is and has always been a part of myself and important for my survival. "Creating is as important as the air I breathe". The knowledge that my paintings can bring joy to other people is fantastic, to give them a piece of world without sorrow and misery. When I do my paintings, I fantasize about the people around me and the lives and create stories around the picture. People and the relationships between all of us has always interested me and therefore you can often see the meetings to be central in the images. My hope is that the viewer will be able to lose themselves in the painting, discover new things and create their own stories.
