Patricia Conde Galería in art fair ZONAMACO 2023, presenting Mexican and international artists.
The gallery presents WORDS OF LIGHT, a selection of works by artists Laura Cohen, Flor Garduño, Michael Kenna, Yael Martínez, and Erwin Olaf, curated by Michel Blancsubé.
Flor Garduño's Inner Light
'Inner light' is a collection of female nudes and still lives as symbolic work by acclaimed Mexican photographer Flor Garduño. In contrast to her first projects, which were essentially diaries of her travels through the Americas, 'Inner light' is a diary of her interior landscape. The images were taken in and around her homes in Mexico and Switzerland. Using the quiet elegance of natural light, she has created stunning photographs that bring a magical lyricism to black-and-white photography.

Yael Martínez's photography
Curator Michael Blancsubé writes about Yael Martínez images. 'Intimate scenes captured by Martínez become extraordinary through subtle and unexpected games of light and shadows. Martínez's photography delves into the intimacy of underprivileged homes, mainly in Guerrero, where he is from, to reveal how wonderful it is to hide in the middle of the banal.'
Yael Martínez, Digno e Itzel, Guerrero, México, 2011.
Erwin Olaf and beauty
Curator Michel Blancusbé writes that 'because it incorporates, among other registers, those of fashion, the photography practiced by Erwin Olaf is undoubtedly the most ambiguous of the five exhibited. Olaf likes beauty, which he adorns with sophisticated elegance, alternately baroque and minimalist. His practice belongs to what critics have called 'staged photography,' in which the photographer acts like a film director taking care of every last detail.'

Michael Kenna's visual haikus
Michael Kenna has described his work as "more like a haiku rather than prose." Kenna's photographs are often made at dawn or in the dark hours of the night with exposures of up to 10 hours. Kenna has said that "you can't always see what's otherwise noticeable during the day… with long exposures, you can photograph what the human eye is incapable of seeing".

Inside Laura Cohen's studio and mind
Michel Blancsubé writes, 'Laura Cohen has spent years practicing studio photography, and the gadgets she invents to achieve the photographs you imagine and desire are frighteningly inventive.'
Laura Cohen works exclusively with analog photography. In her projects, she carries out a conceptual exercise in her black-and-white images, achieving an abstraction of everything that worries her, a metaphor for what she lives and feels.
