Since 1982, Philippe Chancel has sought to photograph the beauty of the disaster. He goes where the ideologies that destroy the world survive and flourish. Among his travels, between fascination and repulsion: places apart and secrets, impenetrable. But also these «most rotten corners of the planet» where men suffer the wrath of nature, when it is not the other way around. “When man begins to destroy himself through his ecosystem and his environment, the alarm must be sounded.” The exhibition «Welcome to Paradise» draws on the visual memory of Philippe Chancel, in search of some of the most eloquent reports of this documentary maker who set himself as «impossible challenge» to diagnose the ills of our planet.
