POLKA @ PARIS PHOTO 2024

Join us for PARIS PHOTO 2024, between November 7 and November 10, at stand B02. For this edition, the Paris Photo fair is happy to return to the Grand Palais, after 5 years of absence...
THE EDGE The Polka gallery brings together ten artists around a proposal concerned with the state of a world in crisis. Nick Brandt presents an original installation of Chapter 4 of his long-term work dedicated to the consequences of climate change: The Day May Break (initiated in 2020), realized this year in Jordan, the hottest place on earth, populated largely by Syrian refugees. A tragedy also told in all its beauty and paradoxes by Steve McCurry in large format and, in the surrounding states, by Sebastião Salgado with an unprecedented selection of vintage prints and platinum palladium unpublished from his series Workers. This world at the edge also emerges from the eye of William Klein, fantasizing about the end of time from a skyscraper in New York, with the latest large-format print of the icon “Atom Bomb Sky”, an image concluding his 1959 master book. But also of that of Joel Meyerowitz, since the nights of Cape Cod where the storm roars. The edges of the world, it is also the margin and those who live there where survive, with the large format silver prints of an American master of photography, Shelby Lee Adams, whose work with rural communities in the Appalachian Mountains is a continuation of the Farm Security Administration and concerned photographers from the great era of Life. The ledge is also and finally that of photography itself which switches in conceptual art: Franco Fontana and Luigi Ghirri’s quest for abstraction also make up this proposal with a selection of vintage prints from the urban series, in contrast to the unpublished works by two contemporary photographers: Miho Kajioka and Paul Cupido.
