Taeyang Hong: Café et cigarettes

South Korean artist Taeyang Hong (born 1986) develops a series of paintings illustrating the Theory of Evolution. We are happy to showcase a selection of medium size artworks that funnily illustrate his research and propose eight artworks in a diversity of themes related to his oneiric and critical research.
"Café et cigarettes by Taeyang Hong is not just an exhibition; it is an invitation to explore the intricate dance between science and mythology, reality and imagination." - Ricardo Fernandes.
The first online solo exhibition by artist Taeyang Hong in our gallery intitled Café et cigarettes (in English Coffee and cigarettes) is a showcase of a selection of medium size artworks that funnily illustrate his research and propose eight artworks in a diversity of themes related to his oneiric and critical research. Artworks like “Café et cigarettes”, “Pool” and “Trottinette” illustrate his experience living abroad and observing different cultures and behaviors, always adding his personage "iomteiot" as part of this adventure. Paintings like “Tell Guillaume.. (I said the apple)” and “I Don’t See Any Problem” are a critical statement to local stories, that allow communities and populations to live in their imaginary world and to develop a system based on mythology and storytelling. Café et cigarettes by Taeyang Hong is not just an exhibition; it is an invitation to explore the intricate dance between science and mythology, reality and imagination. Through his playful yet profound artworks, Hong encourages us to challenge our perceptions and engage in critical thinking. Art, in its essence, serves as a powerful medium for reflection and discourse, enabling us to question and understand the complexities of our world. By immersing ourselves in Hong's unique visual narratives, we are reminded of the importance of empathy and the need to bridge misunderstandings in our society, embracing the transformative power of art in fostering deeper connections and expanding our collective consciousness.
