Atmospheres
Atmospheres
Ro2 Art proudly presents Atmospheres, a collection of works by artist Midge Lynn.
“My work focuses on themes of personal experience and human nature, dichotomies, irony and perceived reality”
Midge Lynn is an award winning artist and educator who has exhibited in galleries both locally and internationally. Lynn's work melds reality and whimsy, creating layers of depth beyond the canvas.
Atmospheres explores these layers of reality through atmospheric works that seamlessly shift from photorealistic imagery, to surreal and abstracted. The exhibition contains representations of all types of life, from intricate depictions of birds, people and sea creatures, to abstracted forms of cells, and energy.
Themes of expansion, broad perspectives and transformative realms are woven throughout Lynn’s work. Her lines and form flow together creating motion and suspense alongside simplified colors and highly detailed forms.
Lynn provides a unique experience with her reimagined globes, which are paintings in the round. In order to fully appreciate these complex pieces they must be fully walked around and viewed from odd angles. Even then, viewers may never see 100% of the piece. Often the paintings are divided by a horizon line, separating not only the land from the sky, but also the whimsical and fantastical from the familiar and natural. This creates two different immersive, yet juxtaposing, realms.

Night Owls
Birds are recurring symbols in Lynn's work, embracing these elements of broad perspectives, and ephemeral qualities of life. In Night Owls the feathered landscape supports the majestic birds in their flight. The composition allows the eye to float through the piece, making direct contact with the gazes of these free creatures.
Green Line
Green Line creates a window-like illusion on top of a scenic hillscape of flowers and hay bales. Similar to the divisions of her globes, the serene landscape is interrupted by a line of frequency. This extends from parallel lines which cover the face in the window. The two paintings are each their own realm. They are both joined together and separated by the green line.
The atmospheric qualities of Lynn's work is captivating, encouraging viewers to be transported into the work and discover the infinite possibilities that lie beyond immediate perception. A feeling of intimacy lies within Lynn's pieces, an understanding that the ephemeral nature and energy she depicts are all around and within.
