Eduardo Guelfenbein’s mesmerizing, repetitive painting surfaces evoke the rhythm of waves or the cosmos. He composes his boldly colorful scenes from thickly applied swirls of acrylic paint. His painting subjects include recognizable imagery, like portraits and landscapes, evolving toward abstract explorations of color combinations. Guelfenbein is influenced by the landscapes of Latin America, European music, and dance. Born in Chile, Guelfenbein received a degree from Brera Academy in 1977. He was included in the 1992 Paris Biennale. He had a solo exhibition at the Santiago Museum of Contemporary Art in 1997 and a 2005 retrospective at the University of Brest.
