Chan Suet Yi’s paintings contain a fluidity akin to dream-like states, capturing fleeting moments of “home” from the subconscious interpreted from various contexts and media. Her hazy images evoke a familiar comfort, yet remain simultaneously elusive by nature, embracing the notion that any place can be home.
"Home is somewhere that I could be completely detached from the public realm."
Chan Suet Yi's exhibited artworks and the concept of home converge as private spaces that facilitate withdrawal from certain realms. For her, the canvas becomes a space, a realm where emotions and memories resonate, echoing the intimate nature of a personal shelter.

Born in Shenzhen, Chan moved to Hong Kong at the age of ten. During her studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, she spent time in the U.S. as an exchange student. After relocating to Berlin in 2013, she began a nomadic lifestyle, traveling and living between various European countries, including Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, Poland, Spain, Norway, and the U.K.

The paintings develop in parallel with Chan's nomadic existence. They serve as travel journals, capturing the elements she encounters while moving from one ‘home’ to another. Each canvas represents a mental space, accompanied by open landscapes that encourage introspection and self-reflection, not only for her but also for the viewers.
