Javier Léon Pérez: Bridging Past and Future Through 'Still Light'

Javier Léon Pérez unveils his latest series 'Still Light' at Soluna Fine Art. The exhibition features a meter-high washi sculpture and 11 oil paintings, each one a testament to Pérez's ability to manipulate space, light, and shadow in his multifaceted artistic expressions.
"Oil painting is my way to preserve the moment." – Javier Léon Pérez
The delicate nature of paper, sensitive to shifts in temperature and humidity, means the form of his sculpture subtly changes each day. Pérez embraces this transience, capturing these fleeting moments in his oil paintings.
Washi, a traditional Japanese paper, has long been a source of inspiration for Pérez. The artist meticulously twists and assembles the washi into a towering sculpture, internally illuminated with a tangerine glow. This light, for Pérez, symbolizes the universal truths, beauty, and sense of existence he seeks through his artistic journey.

His canvases reveal his inner world and insights into the future, with intricate interplays of color and shape creating an illusion of space. Amid the seeming chaos, a visual void emerges, highlighting the duality of art as both an individual expression and a universal pursuit.

The artist perceives oil painting as the optimal medium to express his future visions. It serves as a bridge, connecting his hometown of Seville and the world of tomorrow.
Seville, with its rich history and personal significance to Pérez, plays a pivotal role in his artistic narrative. As he navigates the ebbs and flows of life, new ideas emerge, and oil painting becomes the conduit through which he connects past and future. The use of a traditional medium to depict the future may seem paradoxical, but for Pérez, it forms a harmonious link between the known and the unknown. Past and future converge on his canvas, creating a seamless blend of time and experience.
