Rosalyn Ng presents her debut solo exhibition at Soluna Fine Art in Hong Kong, unveiling a fresh body of abstract works that transcend her innermost feelings.
“The most wonderful moment is the time when we look at the artwork.” - Rosalyn Ng
In her hallmark style of abstraction, Ng’s artistic journey blooms with captivating colors and varied materials. In this exhibition, Scenery of My Mind, Ng delves into the creation of dynamic fusions driven by sheer sensation, drawing inspiration from nature in her external environment. Art critic Cyrus Lamprecht eloquently describes Ng's works using metaphors: the Sun represents her distinctive style, the Earth symbolizes the mediums she employs, and the Moon embodies the thoughts and emotions that suffuse her practice.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Rosalyn Ng pursued a Fine Arts degree at Chelsea College of Art, University of the Arts London. Ng's passion for painting began since childhood, yet it took several years before she fully committed to becoming a full-time artist. Between 2019 and 2021, Ng experimented with different mediums for her paper works, such as charcoal, pastel, and paint. In 2021, she transitioned from organic to gestural abstraction in her canvas works, reassessing her artistic identity.
Ng explores different mediums and colors, fusing spontaneity, rhythm, tonality, and emotionality in her artistic practice. Her latest body of work draws influences from her urban environment that shape her daily experiences, with her gestural, expressive brushstrokes, serving to blur the lines between the imagined and the real - the internal landscapes of her mind and the tangible world she inhabits.

Each artwork in the exhibition collectively manifests the vastness of the artist’s introspection. As Ng explains, her works are not drawn from a specific natural environment but rather distill the sensory impressions acquired through her encounters with diverse landscapes. These collective experiences are then translated into colors and textured brushstrokes, with each stroke imbued with profound emotion. Meanwhile, other areas with pictorial space exemplify the bareness of her feelings.
Ng’s moments of thoughtful reflection translate scenery into vibrant, evocative hues of nature—deep, resplendent blues and lush, verdant greens—forging intimacy between herself and her environment. She hopes to convey this unique connection to her audience, allowing them to share in the emotional journey.

Ng embraces natural changes as a part of her creative process, letting her innermost feelings guide her. At times, she overworks a painting or moves on to another while one remains unfinished, taking a break to reassess when a work is truly complete. This gradual, iterative process allows her to forge an intrinsic connection with each of her pieces, cultivating a free state of being in her practice and imbuing her works with profound authenticity and emotional resonance.
The completion of a piece is ultimately justified by the artist’s own intuitive sensibilities. In the future, Ng aspires to expand the scale of her future creations, challenging the very parameters of her practice. In doing so, she hopes to further immerse her viewers in the harmonious convergence of color and emotion that lies at the heart of her evolving creative practice.
