Surf and Turf | Milena Muzquiz

Travesía Cuatro is delighted to announce the opening of Surf and Turf, a solo exhibition by Milena Muzquiz, on the occasion of Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend.
“trusting in the process is the only secure investment I can make if I banked on concept there would be no room for mistakes. Mistakes are the hometown of every piece, if I had a clear idea of what I was doing this work would die.”
There are around 30 works in this exhibition , oil paintings, ceramic sculptures, vases, watercolors and jewellery. The titles are an array of pop cultural jargon. A morning mug of coffee with “# 1 mom” written on it, newspapers’ articles about war, advertisements for all inclusive vacations, “Stone broke” homeless attitude sprinkled with sunshine and dolphins. Pinning the work down to a landscape of everyday language and common duties energized by relentless movement.
Milena Muzquiz (Tijuana, 1972), Lives and works in Los Angeles, US.
Muzquiz trained at the California College of Fine Arts, San Francisco and then completed an MFA at the Art Centre College of Design, Pasadena, tutored by conceptual artist Mike Kelley. Her works provide a direct encounter with her wit and her engagement with personal narratives and memories. Her paintings of flowers are recollections of memories of places, oozing with nostalgia. The artist’s images and motifs feel familiar, rendered in expressionist brushstrokes.
