Peeters with Rum Runner takes us on a visual journey through his unique artistic vision, exploring the tension between reality and fiction.
RUM RUNNER is inspired by the smugglers and clandestine history of the 1920s, a period when illegal alcohol trade thrived. The exhibition’s title refers to the “rumrunners,” people who smuggled alcohol across borders and through forbidden waters during the American Prohibition.
Theme as a metaphor
Peeters uses Rum Runner theme as a metaphor for his creative process: constantly navigating boundaries, challenging conventions, and exploring new artistic possibilities.
Contrasts and oppositions
The exhibition features a series of works in which Peeters plays with contrasts and oppositions. He blends influences from different cultures, history, and pop culture with a keen eye on contemporary society.
Bold and layered
His bold and layered works, ranging from paintings to installations, invite the viewer to pause and reflect on the stories often hidden beneath the surface of our collective history.
