Turning vulnerability into strength, and chaos into creation.
This exhibition brings together the works of Bis Vika, Maria Abaddon, and Gvantsa Jishkariani, three artists who delve into the shared anxieties and aspirations of their generation. Through their distinct approaches to painting and textiles, they transform deeply personal fears into crafted expressions that speak to a broader, collective experience. Gvantsa Jishkariani manipulates traditional techniques, weaving tales of generational trauma, social pressures, and personal discomforts into vibrant tapestries and collages. Her work reflects a layered narrative, where each thread and texture embodies struggles that resonate across generations. Bis Vika, by contrast, explores the inner depths of human nature through the interplay of order and chaos. Her work distorts and layers forms, inviting viewers to look beyond surface appearances and discover hidden emotions and vulnerabilities. By manipulating the relationship between the seen and the unseen, Vika creates introspective spaces, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own emotional landscapes. Maria Abaddon delves into the visceral and macabre, exposing humanity’s complexity in its rawest forms. His visual language is both visceral and carnal, portraying the ongoing conflict between our internal attributes and the chaotic external world. Abaddon’s work confronts mortality, isolation, societal issues, violence, and the body’s fragile existence. Together, these artists evoke a dialogue between what is feared and what is dreamed, transforming vulnerability into strength and chaos into creation. Shared Fears, Crafted Dreams invites viewers to reflect on the universal threads that connect us, offering a glimpse into the emotional landscapes of the present and the imagined futures they shape. Verduyn is pleased to welcome you from October 20 to December 1, 2024, on Saturdays and Sundays from 14:00 to 18:00, or by appointment.
