Francesc Roselló "Still Live"
Francesc Roselló "Still Live"
We do not always have the certainity of the movement of life, of living it as we would want and we are usually full with the feeling of being somewhere we don't belong to.
"Our beauty is ephemeral, as if it reflects the death that's inside of us" - Francesc Rosselló
We are in constant movement but never really change places, remaining always under the same spotlight. We feel trapped, slaves of our own self, subjected to the impositions of our lifetime.
We are more similar to still life paintings than we think, static and subjected to the pass of time, a certain and inescapable end coming for us. Our beauty is ephemeral, as if it reflects the death that's inside of us.
We act and pretend we are eternal, immortal, and do not think about morals nor take accountability of our brief passage on earth.
In this exhibition, Rosselló reflects the transience of life by capturing autobiographical scenes that overflow intimacy and the essence of living. He creates very personal images within large still lifes, suggesting through them the stillness that's somehow inherent to life.
He wanted to capture the moments that really belong to us, and that we seldom value due to their ordinariness. Sometimes it's necessary to stop, reflect and live consciously for a moment. In this work, the Mallorcan artist oscillates between the everyday and the extraordinary, the epic and the commonplace. Through these themes, Rosselló establishes a link between the history of life and his own life, dialoguing with a large number of references and building a story as if it were a film, focusing on small vital fragments of it.
As in still lives, sometimes you just have to stop, be aware of the transience of life, take a deep breath, appreciate these everyday and intimate moments that we overlook, and start living.
