Davide Maria Coltro: “Astrazione Mediale". MA*GA Museum, Italy

As an art critic Elena Pontiggia writes "On the most recent media works by Davide Maria Coltro, series of vertical lines or geometric shapes are drawn with extreme simplicity, as if personification of hours and days which are passing by…
…Nothing exist, except space, time and light, which make the electronic canvas vibrate. The change is imperceptible. The search for luminous space and for light runs through all works by Coltro”
The artist is in constant research on the possibilities of digital expression, the result of which was a personal exhibition “Astrazione Mediale / Media Abstraction“ by Coltro in the MA*GA Museum of Gallarate, Italy.

Astrazione Mediale enhances the media language, characteristic of Coltro's most authentic form of research, taking on new abstract and synthetic connotations of electronic painting such as bits and pixels, in a code that Coltro himself defines as "painting beyond matter" which seems to have its roots in analytical painting.

As an art critic Angelo Crespi notes, “the chromatic vibrations of lines and squares are repeated, modifying themselves almost infinitely and the variations, accelerated or slowed down by the chosen algorithm, merge into an indefinite number.

Even if there were a repetition or a pattern at its base, it’s neither perceptible by the eye nor codified by the mind, which is left absorbed by the vastness of the work, of its openness, of its perspective of perpetual undoing and redoing in billions of ways and shades.

Nevertheless, the media painting recomposes this indefiniteness into an integrity that we perceive at first glance when we look at the work, whose framed and solid contours hold, like a watercourse, the eternity of the flow in which we cannot bath twice".
