In the presentation of the photograph "Lac Télé (CON 1.1)cc": De profundis, the artist and photographer Jordi Bernadó reflects on distance and recognition. Marcel Proust once wrote that Paradise is always a lost condition. Bernadó travels in search of an image of such a loss; an image of the darkest, most unknown place his gaze can reach. He arrives at Lac Télé, in the Republic of Congo, one of the most isolated and enigmatic lakes in the world. There are hardly any photographs or testimonies, the place is shrouded in an aura of mysticism, laden with legends, fantastic creatures and mysterious curses. Its water, which from the sky offers a limpid reflection, is in fact dark, coloured with minerals and debris.
Sandra Vásquez de la Horra's art explores themes of violence, persecution, and sexual abjection. Drawing from religion, superstition, myth, and her experience of Chile's Pinochet dictatorship, the artist renders crude human and beast-like figures in pencil on paper and then immerses the sheet in molten beeswax to achieve a timeless patina.
