JeongHyun Ha “Luminous Density: Innocence on Canvas”

Roy Gallery presents, Luminous Density: Innocence on Canvas, by Jeong Hyun Ha. On view from March 9th to March 30th at the Apgujeong exhibition space, the show consists of new works from the artist's ongoing series “Draw Without Drawing” and media content of her creative process in her studio.
“My artistic process is without purposeful intent or concept—relying on oil bars to draw and paint, and my hands and brush to then spread. Free of obstruction, this process becomes my personal amusement: my own play.” – Jeong Hyun Ha
Describing her joyful creative process as her own “play”, Ha expresses this freedom through the painting methods of scratching and rubbing the colors on canvas. Through this process, her inner memories burst forth continuously like a series creating depth of layers. Contrary to an expectation of turbidity, the myriad of colors and layers appear luminous and impresses a certain delicate clarity that effectively captures memories of her bright and cheerful childhood. The sound of falling dates, the smell of her grandfather's books, the decorations on her socks—the artist goes beyond the visual and incorporates other senses such as hearing and smell into her work. These details create a panorama of her memories that have internally accumulated through the years. Like planets floating through space, these fragments of memories spread out through her lighthearted drawings.
