The show outlines a panorama of the artist who was a pioneer in using the earth of Minas Gerais as a natural pigment in his paintings, as well as addressing ecology as a production theme.
Manfredo de Souzanetto was born in Jacinto, near the Jequitinhonha River, in the northeast of Minas Gerais, the mountainous state where his practice also originated. Since then, his work has dealt with visuality and the very matter of Minas Gerais' landscapes, with the artist himself reiterating the importance of place in his work at the end of the 1970s (when he had already begun to experiment with geometry more emphatically in his investigations). Even when the compositions abdicate figuration in favor of an apparently Cartesian logic, the secret that undermines Souzanetto's work is still, in his words, "the landscape, of the mountains of Minas Gerais, where he was born."
